“Ladies and Gentlemen!

The last time I made a speech was thirty years ago.
It was my own wedding.
And I was terrified.

But it is, of course, Diana, who is the star of today’s show.

She first introduced me to him in a restraunt “Charlie Kitchen” in LA.
He was very polite and formal.
But what struck me right from the start was the effect he had on Anna.
She seemed so happy and relaxed.
And he obviously adored her.

I can’t stress enough how proud I am today. And how good it is to have you all here. I hope you have a fabulous time this evening.
And I know you’ll want to join me in raising your glasses in a toast to a long, happy and healthy future for …

Groom’s wedding speech

“Standing here surrounded by everyone I care about, the single life already seems like a dream.

People tell me that I drunk too much and slept too little.

To be fair, I only actually recall going out six or seven nights …
… a week.
In those days, an early night meant not queuing for a kebab when the pub closed.
I kept working, often with matchsticks propping my eyes open.
In fact, it was quite amazing that I stayed awake long enough to meet Anna in the first place.

Words cannot tell you how happy you have made me today.
You are the kindest, gentlest, funniest girl I know.
And knowing you has changed me for the better.
Where once I was bordering on the anti-social …
… you have brought me out of my shell.
Where once I was moody …
… you have made me more even tempered.
And where once I was terrified by the thought of walking on to a dance floor in front of a big crowd …
… I’m afraid I still am!

So many friends and relatives who mean so much to us both.
I hope you’d all like to join me in a toast …
… to two beautiful girls who have added so much to this fantastic day.
